We finally left Red Bay and headed to Onenota Alabama (about a 2 hour drive). We found a wonderfull Super Walmart to park in for the day and night. We disconnected the Jeep and drove to several covered bridges in the area.
Ellies favorite spot, in her mommies lap, too cute.

Day 17,We left Oneonta and headed to the outskirts of Birmingham Alabama (about a 90 minute drive).
Surprisingly not much traffic on the freeways.
We ended up a Tannehill State Park. A beautiful tree lined area in a valley with a large creek running through it. We ended up with a beautiful spot that was next to the creek.
This park is the site of an old iron works factory that was built by the Confederate Army to supply them with iron for cannons, shells and a number of other items to help there cause. This iron works was eventually burned down by the Union Army. Many artifacts were unearthed and placed in a museum on this site.

Day 18,Today we woke to rain showers. It seems like the rain has been following us across the US.
We left the pups in the motorhome and drove to Birmingham to tour the Golden Flake Potato chip Factory. It was a fun tour but we were unable take photos inside the factory :-(
The population in the south has different tastes than we do on the west coast. Dill Pickle Potato Chips and Cajun Crawdad Chips are available all over. There are other interesting flavors like BBQ flavored Chicharróns (deep fried pig skin), my favorite.
After the tour we drove to downtown Birmingham to visit the worlds heaviest corner. There are four large buildings on every corner. This claim was started in the late 1800's but overtime the fairytale
has stuck.
Hi Sue and Vern! So happy that things finally worked out good with your RV...and I'm really enjoying your photos so much! Ellie is so cute sitting on your lap, Sue, and can't say I don't blame them for not wanting to do their "business" in the snow, way too cold!! LOL Also, those covered bridges are so beautiful!! Tannehill State Park sounds wonderful, I think you chose the perfect spot next to the water!! Thinking of you both as you travel in the south now, stay safe!!
ReplyDeleteLove following your journey!
